I have just used this excellent tutorial to remove the air con fan on my Skoda as it had stopped working. Once out I found that I could barely rotate the fan and the shaft looked a bit rusty and corroded. A tiny bit of oil on bearing and rotating by hand and the bearing released. All fixed and back in. Saved myself a fortune so long as the car doesn't catch fire!
We are glad that you managed to do this, and we hope that our tutorial was helpful for you. Please, check the technical condition of all units and mechanisms regularly. Best regards, Autodoc.
Just changed mine today in 2012 Octavia, saved a small fortune in garage bills thank you . Airbag light won't go off though,I'm sure I put plug back in properly.
Thank you for your feedback ! We are happy that you like our video. We recommend that you check all the connections, as it is very important for the proper airbag operation. Best regards, Autodoc.
Great help. Thanks. One warning: WHILE AIRBAG IS DISCONNECTED DON'T SWITCH ON IGNITION!!!. AIRBAG FAULT LIGHT WILL NEED TO BE RESET OTHERWISE!!! Also, to reconnect the airbag switch, unscrew it from the glovebox first, connect cable to switch and then reattach to glovebox. Far easier.
Thank you for your valuable clarifications. It is very dangerous to attach airbags with the ignition on. It is recommended to disconnect the battery terminal to reduce the risk of danger.
I have just purchased (almost) a 2012 Skoda Octavia se plus estate. On sitting in the car and playing with the various toys I found the heater/air con did not work. No fan operation on any setting. Pointed it out to the dealer. Having watched this video I’m glad I did. They tried a new resister, no joy, now having to fit a replacement fan/motor unit - hopefully a new or reconditioned one. I’m not bad with a tool box but this job would tax my blood pressure in every sense. I admire the techs calm, patient professional approach. A Basil Fawlty version would be interesting; “RIGHT, YOU’VE HAD ENOUGH WARNINGS YOU STUPID FAN, IM GOING TO GIVE YOU A DAMN GOOD THRASHING !!
Good video, but it is possible to remove this motor/fan after only removing the foam sheet underneath first. Just completed it 10 mins ago. Also, if the problem is a squeaking noise, some WD40 directed at the shaft/bearing sorted that out perfectly.
How great is that tech. Strength in the hands methodical and agile to get into the spots required. Gives me a clue on what to expect labour charges too if needed. Blessings
I tried to wiggle the fan out anticlockwise (maybe moved 5mm over the locking clip). Then i realized it comes out clockwise :) I hope it didn't damage anything. Fun fact: you have to clear the airbag error code after installation.
